30 years of State Audit Office of Croatia

In the presence of more than three hundred guests, the State Audit Office of Croatia celebrated its 30th anniversary, with a formal conference. The conference was attended by, among others, high government officials of the Republic of Croatia and their delegates, representatives of key institutions of the Republic of Croatia, a representative of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), chief state auditors and representatives of supreme audit institutions of European countries with which the SAO has successfully cooperated for many years and the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI), representatives of the academic community, retired Deputy Chief State Auditors and current and former employees of the SAO Croatia.
In addition to Chief State Auditor Ivan Klešić, who presented a historical overview of the development of the SAO Croatia and the most significant activities and work results, as well as strategic goals in the future period, an overview of the SAO's work results and cooperation with the SAO was given by the Vice President of the Croatian Parliament, Academician Željko Reiner; Chief State Treasurer and Delegate of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Danijela Stepić; Chairman of the Committee for Finance and State Budget Boris Lalovac; Dean of the Faculty of Economics, University of Zagreb, Professor Sanja Sever Mališ; Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, Professor Ivan Koprić; Herbert Baumgartner, Deputy Director of the General Secretariat of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions - INTOSAI; Lubomir Andrassy, ​​President of the State Audit Office of the Slovak Republic and Vice President of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions - EUROSAI; Miloslav Kala, President of the State Audit Office of the Czech Republic and until recently President of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions - EUROSAI; Jana Ahčin, president of the Audit Court of the Republic of Slovenia and Milan Dabović, member of the Senate of the State Audit Institution of Montenegro.
On the occasion of marking this important anniversary for the SAO Croatia, the Monograph of the SAO Croatia was published, which was presented at the conference by the Deputy Chief State Auditor Nediljka Rogošić. The Monograph includes description of the historical development, the development of the competences of the SAO Croatia, as well as the overall framework for its functioning, with an emphasis on the importance of ensuring and preserving independence. The Monograph contains, among other things, an overview of the most significant activities in the thirty-year period with special emphasis on the SAO's results, which were achieved by the SAO's employees, both former and current, through their dedicated work.
In the thirty-year period, the SAO Croatia has always tried to be recognized by the public for its independence, professional excellence, conscientiousness and ethics, timeliness, reliability and responsibility, because only in this way SAO can fully justify its purpose and mission.
Over the past 30 years, more than 21,000 audits have been conducted, and almost 70,000 orders and recommendations have been given to audit subjects, in order to improve their activities and increase the regularity and efficiency of spending public money.
