The global summit on the professionalization of SAI auditors
Ivan Klešić, Auditor General of the Republic of Croatia, and Dražen Brozinić and Lidija Pernar, Assistants Auditor General, participated on November 14 and 15, 2023 in the Global Summit on the Professionalization of SAI Auditors, in London, UK.
Organized by INTOSAI's Development Initiative (IDI), the Summit brought together Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and key stakeholders from around the world to discuss the ways in which SAIs contribute to people and the planet by engaging in the growing sustainability reporting and oversight movement.
The summit discussed how comprehensive and relevant reporting on sustainability must be accompanied by effective monitoring mechanisms, and the role of SAIs in monitoring and auditing the UN's sustainable development goals was particularly highlighted. The oversight approach should be appropriate to the type of information being reported, and SAIs with their experience in financial audits, compliance audits and performance audits are uniquely positioned to conduct audits of sustainability reporting. SAIs also have a systematic perspective on the performance of their country's governments that enables them to consider approaches to sustainable development in different parts of the public sector.
