UN/INTOSAI symposium in Vienna, Austria

From April 16 to 18, 2024, Ivan Klešić, the Auditor General of the Republic of Croatia, participated in the 26th UN/INTOSAI Symposium held at the UN premises in Vienna, Austria.
 
In line with the objectives of INTOSAI's strategic plan, UN/INTOSAI symposia support capacity building in Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs). Through the exchange of thematic experiences and information in all relevant areas of public sector audit, it contribute to research and development of methodology in these areas.
 
The theme of this 26th UN/INTOSAI Symposium, attended by over 200 heads and representatives of SAIs from around the world, was: Implementation of SDG 13 on Climate Action: Role, Contribution and Experience of Supreme Audit Institutions.
 
The symposium was divided into three sub-topics:
(i) The SAI's practice in reviewing the impact of climate change, in which Mr. Klešić and his associates held a presentation and participated in a discussion on the topic of auditing climate change adaptation planning
(ii) Achieving the conditions for auditing climate actions and
(iii) Strengthening climate action - impact of climate change audits.
 
At the end of the symposium, conclusions and recommendations were prepared, the emphasis of which is on the fact that SAIs have a great responsibility and can play an important role in:
- developing capacities for climate change
- encouraging climate action at the national, local, and global level, from encouraging the adoption of appropriate strategies and plans, to concrete activities in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 13, and
- raising the awareness of relevant institutions, organizations and the public for climate change.
 
On the sidelines of the symposium, Ivan Klešić, Auditor General and associates, at the invitation of the Supreme Audit Institution of the United Arab Emirates, held a ministerial meeting with H.E. Humaid Obaid Khalifa Abushibs, President of the UAE SAI, where they discussed possible areas and ways of professional cooperation between the two institutions.
